Red yeast rice contains monacolin and mevinolin acid, which are similar to medical substances satins, it has a direct inhibitory effect on the activity of HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme of cholesterol synthesis, reducing the total cholesterol level in persons with hyperlipidemia. It is included into the composition of “Kolestina”.
