Description
Malpighia glabra is a plant of the malpighiaceae family. The plant fruits are harvested for medicinal purposes due to large amounts of vitamin C (4.5%), A, B, pantothenic acid, niacin, a lot of magnesium and potassium. Acerola has diverse pharmacological activity stipulated mainly by ascorbic acid contained in it, which is directly involved in oxidation-reduction processes, in metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, fats, ferment activation, enhances tissue regeneration, regulates blood clotting ability, vascular permeability, participates in collagen synthesis, steroid hormones, increases the body resistance to infections and other adverse environmental factors. Ascorbic acid increases mental, physical performance and activates the basal metabolic rate.
