Bifidobacterium longum is known for its ability to stimulate the immune system and reduce inflammation in the body. On the one hand, it produces short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate, which are important for the intestinal cells’ nutrition and have an anti-inflammatory effect. On the other hand, it binds to potentially harmful bacteria in the intestines and thus prevents them from colonising and multiplying. In addition, bifidobacterium longum stimulates the immune system by promoting the production of anti-inflammatory molecules.
